SPN 100 identifies engine oil pressure. FMI 1 indicates oil pressure below the normal operating range at the most severe level.
This condition can represent genuinely low oil pressure and should not be ignored because insufficient lubrication can damage the engine.
What to check first
Check the engine oil level and condition. Look for external leakage or evidence that fuel or coolant has contaminated the oil.
Compare the ECM oil-pressure reading with the manufacturer's specification. If necessary, verify actual pressure with the approved mechanical test.
If actual pressure is normal, inspect the oil-pressure sensor, connector and wiring. If actual pressure is low, diagnose the lubrication system according to the OEM procedure.
Important
Some engines may derate or shut down to protect themselves when oil pressure remains critically low. Do not continue operating an engine with confirmed oil pressure below specification.
